TEDD for Industrial Park Gets Final Approval


A proposed Targeted Economic Development District (TEDD) in Lockwood was approved, by Yellowstone County Commissioners, following two years of research, study and planning. The TEDD — a tax increment financing district – will help finance infrastructure for an industrial park, being proposed by Big Sky Economic Development (BSED).

Montana Good for Vets


In a new study, SmartAsset has determined the best states for veterans, and Montana takes the seventh spot. Veterans in Montana may find a built-in support system. Veterans account for more than 10% of the state’s population and Montana boasts the fifth-highest percentage of veterans enrolled in the Veterans Health Administration at 59.3%. Additionally, there are 2.83 VA facilities for every 10,000 vets, the fifth-highest rate of any state.

Montana Pursues Oil Well Operators



The Montana Board of Oil and Gas Conservation is aggressively going after operators who are not plugging abandoned wells as well as other violations.
At its Oct. 26 meeting, the board ordered Black Gold Energy Resources Development LLC of Billings to clean up an oil spill on its well site by Dec. 15. It also faces a $250-a- day fine if the remedial work is not completed. The spill occurred at the Indian Mount 1 well in Richland County.

Groups Target Infrastructure Needs As Top Priority for Montana


The Montana Infrastructure Coalition is working on a non-partisan legislative package that will help address some of the most pressing infrastructure needs in the state – most especially water and wastewater systems for communities. The Montana chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) estimates that the total annual reinvestment by Montana communities, to maintain their $15 billion dollars in assets, is around $165 million, statewide.

PSC Certifies 26 Companies


The Montana Public Service Commission voted 5-0 to certify 26 companies and affiliates as eligible telecommunications carriers (ETCs) for 2017, opening the doors for approximately $100 million in broadband investment funds to be utilized across Montana over the next year. The funds that each ETC is eligible to receive come from the Federal Communication Commission’s Universal Service Fund to improve communication infrastructure in unserved and underserved areas across the country.

Montana, 6th Most Competitive Tax Code


Montana has the 6th most competitive tax code in the nation according to the 13th annual State Business Tax Climate Index, compiled by the nonpartisan Tax Foundation. The report measures how well-structured each state’s tax code is by analyzing over 100 tax variables in five different tax categories: corporate, individual income, sales, property, and unemployment insurance.
