Yellowstone County’s Largest Property Taxpayers


CHS Inc. – the refinery in Laurel – is the largest property taxpayer in Yellowstone County.
The Yellowstone County Treasurer, Sherry Long, announced the ten largest property tax payers in the county last week.
CHS Inc. is the largest with a taxable value of $24,006,727.
Northwestern Energy is the second largest with $21,038,547;

EDA/EDC Annual Meeting


Big Sky Economic Development (BSED) will hold their annual board meeting in conjunction with a summit on the economy of the health care industry, October 12 and 13 at the Doubletree by Hilton in Billings.
The event begins on Wednesday, Oct. 12, at 10 am, with a presentation on the year in review by the leadership of the Big Sky Economic Development Authority (EDA) and the Big Sky Economic Development Corporation (EDC), which will include a program on economic development in the healthcare corridor.
Dr. Neelum Aggarwal will be the keynote speaker at lunch speaking on “Innovation is the Key to a Vibrant Economy.”

New Motel Opens with CDC Help


With the help of the Montana & Idaho Community Development Corporation (MICDC) and the New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) Program, the new Home2 Suites by Hilton has opened on Seventh Avenue North in Billings. The Home2 Suites by Hilton, which was developed by JWT Capital LLC and is managed by Lodging Dynamics Hospitality Group, offers 95 suites with fully equipped kitchens and modular furniture. Through the NMTC Program, the Montana & Idaho CDC provided just over $3.4 million in tax credit equity toward the $13.8 million project.

The IAFE 2016 Fair and Exposition Winners


For the second year, MontanaFair is being recognized as one of the top fairs of its size in the world with contest winner announcements from IAFE.
The International Association of Fairs and Exhibitions is the largest trade organization of the fair industry. Each year, the IAFE conducts contests for its fair members, which recognize and reward excellence. All contests are judged by IAFE member representatives and professionals from respective fields.

Montana Fair by the Numbers


The numbers show Montana Fair had another very successful year.
Metra Park Manager Bill Dutcher reported the fair numbers to Yellowstone County Commissioners on Tuesday. Metra Park depends on fair revenues to fund about a fourth of their annual budget.

Hearing Set for Lockwood TEDD


“It’s time to stop that train,” said Yellowstone County Commissioner Jim Reno in opposition to the creation of Yellowstone County’s first request to establish a tax increment finance district.
Public hearing dates for the creation of the Lockwood Targeted Economic Development District (TEDD) which creates a tax increment district were set by County Commissioners in a 2-1 vote. Reno opposed setting the hearings.

EDA/EDC Finalize Budget, Focus on Opportunity


Finance issues largely dominated business of the joint meeting of the executive boards of the Big Sky Economic Development Authority (EDA) and the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) during their monthly meeting. Discussions included what they want to support this year through the Opportunity Fund.
