For the month of March, MacKenzie River Pizza, in Billings Heights, will temporarily close to undergo remodeling and changes to accommodate an expanding menu.

A larger kitchen is needed to expand MacKenzie River's popular pizza and sandwich menu to into a full menu, offering steaks, salmon, burgers, fries, etc., according to Manager Jennifer Papka.

The store will be the first in Montana to adapt to a pizza-grill-pub concept that has already proven to be very popular in their Spokane and Indiana stores. Papka said that she believes the full menu, family-style restaurant will be especially welcomed in the Heights.

Located at 405 E. Main Street, the restaurant closes on March 1 and will reopen on Sunday, April 1. MacKenzie River's other location in Billings, 3025 Grand, will remain open.

Papka said that the expansion will mean the addition of five or six additional employees to a current staff of 32. New hires will include a kitchen manager.

The appearance of the restaurant will not change greatly, said Papka. Most of the renovations will happen in the kitchen. There will be some refurbishing of the dining area; the exterior will be repainted, and there will be some new landscaping. The relatively new banquet room will not change.

MacKenzie River Pizza, part of the Glacier Restaurant Group, has 15 locations, 11 in Montana, two in Spokane, one in Idaho and one in Indiana. The first MacKenzie River was opened in Bozeman in 1993.
