In all the years that Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch (YBGR) has been operating, never have they had a Chief Information Officer (CIO). That changed this January with the addition of Tyson Schumacher, B.S., M.B.A.
Mike Chavers, named the Ranch’s CEO in August, 2016, knows Schumacher from working with him through Nexus, a Minneapolis-based national non-profit, serving children and families. Schumacher said they’ve had a working relationship for nearly twelve years.
“[We’re] getting the opportunity to show people that we can affect real change that we can see and be a part of,” Schumacher said. “It’s exciting to get to a position where we’re both accountable and responsible for those changes.”
Schumacher started in the technology field at age 14, working on computer repair, networking, and small-business consulting. He also participated in the development and maintenance of an Enhanced 911 (E-911) system used by a Minnesota county. Schumacher served small-business customers in southern Minnesota through a sole proprietorship. In 2005, he started focusing on non-profit technology by taking a technology post at Gerard Academy in Austin, MN. In 2007, he transitioned to Nexus as Director of Information Technology - a post he held until January, 2017. Schumacher holds a M.B.A. with a focus on Technology Management from the University of Phoenix.
