In a short, surprise ceremony last week, the Billings Chamber 2017 Award for Agricultural Excellence honoree was announced as Bruce MacIntyre, who serves with the Chamber. This award is presented to an individual, organization or family who made a significant impact in the local ag industry. MacIntyre, the Chamber’s liaisons to the Ag Committee, was selected by the members of the 40 member volunteer committee for his dedication to the industry.
Taylor Brown, state legislator and Ag Committee member, during the ceremony stated, “Bruce, you’ve done so much for the ag community legislatively. The Chamber’s attention to agriculture is so much better now than it was 20 years ago. We appreciate what you’ve done for us.”
Courtney Kibblewhite, vice chair of the committee, summarized the selection of MacIntyre, “We in the ag community need a conduit between city people and ag people. You are critical to us as that person.”
MacIntyre is a third-generation Montanan and native of Billings. He was in the family automobile business for 25 years with the final 14 as owner and operator of MacIntyre Motor Company. Following the sale of his business in 1983, MacIntyre was general manager of Briarwood Subdivision for 15 years, and was business manager of Masterlube for three years. Bruce also is a past Chair of the Montana Auto Dealers and Montana Taxpayers Associations, and former Board member of MetraPark. As a member of these and other various organizations, he has been involved with the political process in Billings in particular and Montana in general. MacIntyre works with all levels of Local, State and Federal government, as well as with the general membership of the Chamber.
MacIntyre notes his awareness and appreciation for agriculture. “When I was in the automobile business years ago, agriculture dictated my success. If ag was good, I sold a lot of cars; when ag wasn’t good, I had too much inventory. I’ve always known just how important ag is around here.”
MacIntyre will receive the award during the 2017 Ag Appreciation Banquet presented by the Billings Chamber of Commerce and Yellowstone Valley Electric Cooperative.
