Sport “Madness” Brought to Billings by Dedicated Effort


With several major sport events lined up to take place at Metra Park over the next couple of months— the “softest” months for the hospitality industry — the significant impact of the visiting athletes and fans on the local economy underscores the importance of the TBID (Tourism Business Improvement Districts). It’s evidence that Alex Tyson, Executive Director for Visit Billings, hopes will be focused upon as the TBID faces its first ten-year renewal mandate before the City Council.

Abatement Begins on Battin Building

The asbestos abatement has started on the former James F. Battin Federal Courthouse. The building, located at 316 North 26th Street in Billings, that has sat vacant for several years, is headed toward a new future. Owner, Joe Holden said, “We are excited to begin the process of bringing this building back to life in Downtown Billings and I would like to thank Big Sky Economic Development and the City of Billings for their support in this process.”

MacIntyre to Receive Ag Excellence Award

In a short, surprise ceremony last week, the Billings Chamber 2017 Award for Agricultural Excellence honoree was announced as Bruce MacIntyre, who serves with the Chamber. This award is presented to an individual, organization or family who made a significant impact in the local ag industry. MacIntyre, the Chamber’s liaisons to the Ag Committee, was selected by the members of the 40 member volunteer committee for his dedication to the industry.

Zonta Trivia Night, Feb. 18

The 20th Annual Trivia Night Fund Raiser will be held on, February 18, at St. Bernard’s Church, 226 Wicks Lane, Billings.
The theme this year is “Route 66, Road Trip.” Participants form teams for lots of fun, with the teams who answer the most trivia questions in eight rounds of play winning prizes.

American Dallas Flight Coming to Billings

American Airlines announced they will offer a daily direct flight between Billings & Dallas/Fort Worth starting June 2, 2017 – achieving a primary goal of Billings businesses and economic support groups. The three hour flight, aimed at serving business travel will improve travel from Billings to points south – including South and Latin America and the Caribbean. Previously flights had to connect through Denver or Salt Lake City.

Gilmore Recognized

BJ Gilmore, the chief nursing officer and vice president of patient care services at St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings, will receive the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Healthcare from the Montana State University College of Nursing.
