The upbeat news in agriculture in Montana is all about pulse crops (lentils and peas) with prices expected to rise and production increasing by 75 percent, while more traditional farm production has suffered price declines over the past couple of years. George Haynes of the Department Economics and Agricultural Economics and Extension Economics at MSU, called the emerging importance of pulse crops a "remarkable story," in speaking to the attendees of the Economic Outlook Seminar in Billings on Jan. 31.

Physical Therapists High in Job Demand

At the top of the list of the fastest growing jobs in Montana are Physical Therapists according to zippia.com, a career resource center. Other growing jobs in Montana include First-Line Supervisors of Construction Trades and Extraction Workers; Construction Laborers; Electricians; Restaurant Cooks; Personal Care Aides; Plumbers, Pipefitters, and Steamfitters; Cost Estimators; Farmworkers for Farm, Ranch, and Aquacultural Animals; Registered Nurses. Zippia.com compiled the list of top 100 jobs for each state based on data collected by government agencies. Every couple of years each state's Department of Labor works in conjunction with the Bureau of Labor Statistics to compile projections for job growth by occupation. The government last completed this research in 2014 with projections going out until 2024. They identified the occupations in Montana that are projected to have at least 1,000 workers in 2024. The process identified data for 91 occupations in Montana. The bottom five jobs fastest growing jobs included Chief Executives, executive assistants, hairdressers or stylists, bookkeepers and taxi drivers. Among some of the faster growing jobs are bus, truck, diesel mechanics; accountants and auditors; carpenters; paralegals and legal assistants; civil engineers; food prepares and servers; and mental health counselors.

Montana Insurance Rates Higher for Poor Credit Ratings


According to a new report by insuranceQuotes, credit has a significant impact on what you pay for car insurance. Drivers with poor credit often pay double, or even triple, depending on where they live.
Montana ranks top ten of all 50 states – with a 167% premium increase when credit drops from excellent to poor. When credit ratings drop from excellent to fair, the average annual insurance premiums of $678 may be increased by more than 41 percent.

GTUIT Provides Gas Recovery for Liberty


Billings-based GTUIT, LLC announced that the firm has been providing Liberty Resources, LLC natural gas liquids (NGL) recovery and flare reduction services since June 2016. GTUIT has provided up to 4,500 MCFD of processing capacity at four well locations. GTUIT’s gas processing helps Liberty Resources reduce air emissions and meet the State of North Dakota Industrial Commission Flaring Reduction requirements.
