Montana Chamber: Setting the Bar for Entrepreneurs

To be in business is noble and virtuous.
To implement a plan for a good environment in Montana for business will cost Montana Chamber members a million dollars.
Business people were called upon by Greg Gianforte to be proud of what they do in the private sector, and to do their part in planting “a spark” of entrepreneurship in young people. Gianforte underscored the importance of business in Montana as the featured speaker for the Montana Chamber of Commerce, which has endorsed the Republican in his bid for Governor against Democrat incumbent Steve Bullock.

Mini-Storage Business Launched in Lockwood


Construction is underway in Lockwood for a mini-storage business, located at 634 Johnson Lane, south of the new King ACE Hardware. To be called Treasure State Storage, owner Josh Powell said that his new business will be built in two phases. Each phase will involve building about 126 standard size mini-storage units.
Powell said that he hopes to be able to start renting units in about three weeks.

From the Trunk of a Car... the Cowles Family


Many small businesses relate start-up experiences of working in their basement or a garage, but the 2016 Montana Family Business award winner in the Medium Category began business out of the trunk of a car. Don Cowles owner of Wild West Shirt Co. began his business in 1974 selling t-shirts to employees of Yellowstone National Park from the trunk of his car.

Hittmeier Promoted at Stockman Asset Management


Brenda Hittmeier has been promoted to managing director at Stockman Asset Management (SAM) in Billings. Her responsibilities include investment account management, economic analysis, business development and employee supervision and development. She works with Montana families to provide holistic wealth management services.

Leadership Montana Awards Presented


Leadership Montana held its annual statewide conference in Butte September 22 and 23 at the NorthWestern Energy. Each year this event attracts leaders from all corners of Montana who convene to discuss important issues affecting businesses, higher education, government, non-profit organizations, the health care industry and more. Awards were given to Leadership Montana alumni for leadership and service.

It’s all about the Dough - Elliotts of Montana


Because someone said “I can do this better,” a small family business was born.
That business, Elliotts of Montana, was recognized in the Very Small category of the 2016 Montana Family Business Awards from the Montana State University’s Jake Jabs College of Business and Entrepreneurship, during an awards ceremony last week. Each year, the event is co-produced by State Farm Insurance, and sponsored by the Montana Chamber of Commerce.

A Lot of Bliss - General Distributing Company

General Distributing Company has grown to be one of Montana’s premier businesses, with locations in Great Falls, Glendive, Butte, Bozeman, Helena and Billings. As the family business of the Bliss Family it was recognized with a 2016 Montana Family Business Awards from the Montana State University’s Jake Jabs College of Business and Entrepreneurship, during an awards ceremony last week. It received the Large Business Category award as an employer of more than 50 people.
